Duke Nose Valley Crossing And Rappelling Expedition
Experience the Ultimate Combination of 220-Foot Valley Crossing & 300-Foot Rappelling
Overview
The Duke’s Nose Valley Crossing & Rappelling Expedition is one of Maharashtra’s most thrilling adventure experiences, combining the excitement of 220-foot valley crossing with an adrenaline-pumping 300-foot cliff rappelling descent. Located near Kurvande Village in Lonavala, Duke’s Nose—locally known as Nagphani—is one of the most iconic cliffs in the Sahyadri Mountains, famous for its dramatic rock formations, breathtaking views, and world-class adventure activities.
Named after its distinctive shape resembling the nose of the Duke of Wellington, and also known as Nagphani because it resembles the hood of a cobra, Duke’s Nose rises approximately 2,000 feet above sea level. The towering basalt cliff overlooks the lush valleys of Lonavala and Khandala, offering panoramic views that make it one of the most picturesque adventure destinations in Maharashtra.
The expedition begins with an overnight journey from Mumbai or Pune to Kurvande Village, followed by an early morning trek through scenic forest trails leading to the summit of Duke’s Nose. The trail is relatively short yet rewarding, passing through dense greenery and gradually revealing spectacular viewpoints across the Western Ghats.
At the summit, participants receive a comprehensive safety briefing from Team SRA’s certified technical instructors before beginning the day’s adventure. The first challenge is the 220-foot valley crossing, where participants traverse a rope suspended across a deep valley while securely harnessed to professional safety systems. This activity provides an unforgettable combination of excitement, focus, and breathtaking scenery.
Following the valley crossing, participants prepare for the 300-foot technical rappelling descent, where they descend the near-vertical cliff face using internationally certified climbing ropes, harnesses, helmets, descenders, and professional safety equipment. Every participant is supervised throughout the activity by experienced mountaineers and rescue professionals, ensuring the highest standards of safety.
The expedition includes breakfast, a delicious local vegetarian meal, one-day adventure insurance, certified climbing equipment, first-aid support, and complete technical assistance. Designed for adventure enthusiasts with good physical fitness, this expedition offers an unforgettable blend of trekking, technical adventure, and spectacular Himalayan-style rock climbing in the heart of the Sahyadris.
Whether you’re looking to conquer your fear of heights, experience your first valley crossing, or add another milestone to your adventure journey, the Duke’s Nose Valley Crossing & Rappelling Expedition promises a truly memorable experience.
