1200ft Kalu Waterfall Rappelling Expedition
Conquer the Cascades! Experience 1,200 Feet of Thrilling Waterfall Rappelling in 4 Stages at Kalu Waterfall.
Overview
Experience an extraordinary vertical adventure with the 1200 Ft Kalu Waterfall Rappelling Expedition, organised by Sahyadri Rock Adventures. Located near Khireshwar Village in the Malshej Ghat region of Maharashtra, Kalu Waterfall is known for its towering cascades, dramatic cliffs, lush mountain surroundings and breathtaking valley views. This expedition offers adventure enthusiasts an opportunity to experience the thrill of a 1,200-foot rappelling descent divided into four challenging stages.
Kalu Waterfall is one of the remarkable natural attractions of the Sahyadri Mountains. Surrounded by rugged rock formations, deep valleys and seasonal greenery, the waterfall creates a spectacular setting for technical adventure activities. During and after the monsoon, the surrounding landscape transforms into a dramatic combination of flowing water, mist-covered cliffs and dense vegetation. The waterfall’s height and challenging terrain make it a demanding destination for experienced adventure enthusiasts.
The expedition begins with overnight travel from Dadar (Mumbai) or Pune towards Khireshwar Village, the starting point of the adventure. Participants arrive at the base village during the early morning hours and take a short rest before preparing for the expedition. After tea and breakfast, the group begins trekking towards the upper section of Kalu Waterfall, passing through the rugged mountain terrain of the Malshej Ghat region.
The main highlight of the expedition is the 1,200-foot waterfall rappelling activity, conducted in four stages. Participants descend the steep rock faces using technical ropes, harnesses and specialised rappelling equipment under the supervision of an experienced and certified mountaineering team. Each stage presents a different section of the waterfall’s dramatic vertical terrain, making the descent both physically demanding and exceptionally rewarding.
The activity begins early in the morning, with participants rappelling one by one according to the instructions of the technical team. Throughout the expedition, the organisers coordinate equipment handling, rope systems and participant movement to manage the descent. Due to the significant height, slippery surfaces and potential water flow, the expedition requires physical fitness, confidence and strict adherence to safety instructions.
As participants descend through the waterfall sections, they experience magnificent views of the surrounding Sahyadri valleys, towering cliffs and mountain landscape. The expedition offers a distinctive combination of technical adventure and natural beauty that sets it apart from conventional trekking experiences.
During the expedition, participants enjoy a packed vegetarian lunch in the Kalu Valley before continuing the remaining descent. After completing all four rappelling stages, the group begins trekking towards Khitbi Base Camp, where the activity concludes. Participants then begin their return journey towards Kalyan or Pune.
The expedition package includes tea and breakfast, a vegetarian packed lunch, technical rappelling equipment, first-aid arrangements, support from an experienced certified adventure team and one-day adventure insurance. Participants can select either the base-to-base package or a transportation-inclusive package from Dadar or Pune.
Rated Difficult, the Kalu Waterfall Rappelling Expedition is intended for physically fit participants prepared for strenuous trekking and demanding technical descents. Previous rappelling experience is strongly recommended. The activity is subject to weather, water flow, rock conditions and the technical team’s safety assessment.
For those seeking a challenging outdoor adventure, Kalu Waterfall offers an unforgettable experience of descending towering rock faces surrounded by the natural beauty of Maharashtra’s Sahyadri Mountains.
Join Sahyadri Rock Adventures for the 1200 Ft Kalu Waterfall Rappelling Expedition and experience the thrill of a four-stage vertical descent through one of Maharashtra’s most spectacular waterfall landscapes.
